Both expats and Indonesian citizens gather in Erasmus Huis (Dutch Cultural Centre) to listen to interesting English-spoken lectures and exchange ideas and opinions. The topics are very diverse but always about Indonesia. This Evening Lectures Series has been organized by the Indonesian Heritage Society since 1973.

The lectures and held once a month (every third Tuesday of the month) from September till May. The topics will be focused on history, social developments, art, politics and economics. The lectures may also incorporate panel discussions and interviews as well.

The lectures are held at the Erasmus House auditorium, starting at 7 P.M. Before the lecture there is a meet and greet from 6:15 P.M. and there also is a possibility to have dinner at Hema restaurant on the premises.

Focus on Indonesian Cinema: Setan Jawa

Speaker: Asmara Abigail

Actress Asmara Abigail will talk about the making of this very special Indonesian film in which she is playing the main character. The silent and black-and-white movie by the celebrated Indonesian director and producer Garin Nugroho has made an international tour since the release in February 2017. It is accompanied by a live gamelan orchestra. The movie is expected to come to Jakarta in 2018.

Indonesian Child Soldiers

Speaker: Sidney Jones

Children have been used as scouts, couriers, and combatants in Indonesian conflicts, including Poso and Aceh, and now train in Syria for similar duties. The Indonesian government faces the issue of “reintegrating” children who return. Sidney Jones will use case studies to look at possible solutions.
