The inaugural Kemang Grand Prix was held on Monday 7 June 1999 at the Kemang Street Circuit, Jakarta, Indonesia. The entry fee was satu juta rupiah (Rp 1,000,000). A minimum of 20 drivers competed. The prize purse was a huge sepuluh juta rupiah (Rp 10,000,000)!

Two races were held on that date, the 70cc Honda preliminary event followed by the Kijang feature event. Competitors supplied their own vehicles. Safety and performance modifications (seat belts, dark window tinting, etc) were permitted, recommended but not mandatory.

The roads were cleared for this event courtesy of the Jaksel Police Department, who kindly offered to perform this service at half of the entry fee take.

Toyota. Makers of that stylish and well-built vehicle, the Kijang. Honda. Get 70cc of raw power between your legs. McDonald's. Do you want rice with that? Mama's Kitchen. Don't fool yourself, you're a bloody idiot. Kemang Hotel. No place like it (since the Garden Hotel burnt down). Kem Chicks Supermarket. Why pay less...
